annette bening

After her family moved from Kansas to San Diego, California
while she was still very young, Annette at first began
to pursue a career in dancing, and appeared in several
productions in college. After graduating from SFU, Annette
began acting with the American Conservatory Theatre, and
from there went on to try her luck in New York. Though
she was nominated for a Tony Award and won a Clarence
Derwent Award for Outstanding Debut Performance, Annette
still had a rough five years in the city before finally
breaking into the movies in 1988 as Dan Aykroyd's wife
in the comedy "The Great Outdoors." She appeared
in a few more films before her star-making turn in 1990's
"The Grifters," for which she was nominated
for an Academy Award, a New York Film Critics Circle award,
and a British Academy award.
It was this role that brought her the attention
Warren Beatty, who cast her as his love interest in
1991's "Buggsy," and though it was a box office
disappointment, it did win her a Golden Globe nomination.
Annette continued to appear in movies that, though some
were received better than others, brought her more and
more respect as an actress, including "Love Story"
(again alongside her now-husband Warren Beatty), "The
American President" and "American Beauty"
with Kevin Spacey.
