After earning his degree from the <em>University of Hull</em> he began to lecture at the school and write plays on his spare time. After a couple of years writing Minghella was named Most Promising Playwright of the Year by the <em>London Theatre Critics</em>. <p class="body">In 1991 Minghella made his first film when he worked on <em>Truly, Madly, Deeply</em>, the film was successful and allowed Minghella a chance to continue writing and directing. After years of working on the adaptation of <em>The English Patient</em> the film was finished and was a huge success and won arm fulls of awards. <p class="body">Since The English Patient Minghella has worked on <em>The Talented Mr. Ripley</em> and <em>Cold Mountain</em>.
