Charlize Theron grew up on a farm in
South Africa and studied ballet in the small African
town she was from.
At the age 16 Charlize Theron entered a model finding contest and won and began to work
as a photo model. An unexpected knee injury forced the young model to quit dancing and eventually to
concentrate on her acting career. Her mother bought her a one way ticket to America for her to start
her career.
The actress found it hard to find work in the LA and was living off help her mother was
providing from Africa. Charlize tried to cash a check her mother sent her, but the bank would not take the
out-state check. Theron began to take a fit and an agent witnessed the encountered and offered her a script
providing she learned to speak English better. After watching a lot of daytime television Charlize began to
pick up the language.
Her first film role was in 2 Days in the Valley and eventually began to star in
films like The Cider House Rules, The Legend of Bagger Vance and Monster.
Theron’s role in Monster won her this
last year’s Golden Globe for best actress and she earned
an Oscar for the same category.
She nominated for the award again this
year with her role in North Country.
