Diane Lane was born to an acting coach father and a nightclub singer mother. Lane made a name for herself at an early age and performed on stage from the age of six, to the age of 13. It was at that point she made her film debut in the movie A Little Romance.

In the film a young Diane Lane got to work with screen legend Sir Laurence Olivier, who said the actress reminded him of a Grace Kelly type actress. Once Lane cut her teeth in movies she continued to act in films like Streets of Fire, Chaplin and The Perfect Storm. She was nominated for an Oscar for her work in Unfaithful.

Earlier in Lane’s career she turned down a part in Splash and went to Daryl Hannah and that into a career defining performance for her. Despite this Diane Lane is one of the more successful actresses in show business today.

She is nominated for best actress for her performance in Frances in Under the Tuscan Sun.
