Michel Gondry directs this strange and beautiful film in which Jim Carrey plays Joel, a man heartbroken when he discovers that the woman he loves (Clementine, played by Kate Winslet) has willfully had him erased from her memory. Desperate for help, he contacts the doctor who performed the operation (portrayed by Tom Wilkinson) for the same reason: to have Clementine removed from his memory as well. But this is easier said than done: as his memory of her fades, he begins to remember those things he may have already forgotten, prompting him to stop the process - he can't let her go, while the doctor and his helpers (played by Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo and Elijah Wood) chase after him though his very mind.
