Heath Ledger took a liking to acting
while in high school when he had a choice between drama
and cooking. At the age of 17 Ledger decided to pursue
acting and quit school and moved to Sydney.
While there he was offered some television and film roles,
which helped earn a part in the American film 10 Things I Hate about You.
The film was a hit, but Ledger found that the role helped typecast him as a
young hunk.
Roles in films like The Patriot, Ned Kelly
and The Brothers Grimm have helped Ledger get a reputation
as a good actor.
This year Ledger is nominated for his
work as a gay cowboy in
Brokeback Mountain. Both Leger and the film itself
are up for Golden Globes this year.
