jamie foxx

Like his mother before him, Jamie was an adopted child,
taken in by his grandparents when he was only 7 months
old after his parents divorced. Jamie went on to play
high school football and study music in college, but comedy
seemed to be his true calling. He was a regular on "In
Living Color" in the early 90s, alongside fellow
Oscar hopeful Jim Carrey, and
in 1996 he launched his own series on the WB, "The
Jamie Foxx Show," which went on to be one of the
network's most popular offerings, earning Foxx three nominations
for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, as well as an
NAACP Image Award.
In 1999 Foxx garnered praise for his portrayal
of quarterback Willie Beamen in Oliver Stone's "Any
Given Sunday", alongside Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz
and LL Cool J, and again in 2001 when he appeared with
Will Smith in "Ali." The latter role won him
another NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a
Supporting Role. He followed this up with his role as
a cab driver in "Collateral" with Tom Cruise,
and now the hotly anticipated Ray Charles biopic "Ray."
