laura linney

Best known for her portrayal of strong-willed and idealistic
woman, Laura has been involved in the entertainment business
more or less since birth. Her father Romulus Linney was
a respected off-Broadway playwright, so saying that she
was born into the theatre isn't that far off. She attended
Brown University and then Juilliard, and was soon appearing
on Broadway in a number of productions. In 1992, Laura
made her feature film debut in "Lorenzo's Oil,"
and the year later had an admittedly brief though important
role alongside Kevin Kline in "Dave." She went
on to appear in several other films, some more well-received
than others, including "Searching for Bobby Fischer"
in 1993, "A Simple Twist of Fate" in 1994 and
"Congo" in 1995.
Her real breakthrough role was as Richard
Gere's lawyer and ex in "Primal Fear" in 1995,
which brought her to the attention of
Clint Eastwood; he cast her as her daughter in "Absolute
Power" the next year. In 1998 she appeared in the
much-celebrated "Truman Show." It was in the
indie film "You Can Count On Me" that finally
brought her the recognition she deserved, including
awards for Best Actress of the Year from the National
Society of Film Critics and the New York Film Critics
Circle, as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Laura appears in the Golden Globe nominated " Kinsey"
along with fellow nominee Liam
Neeson.
This year Linney is nominated for work
on the film The
Squid and the Whale, she stars with
Jeff Daniels in the film.
