liam neeson

Liam Neeson had never planned to become an actor. Born
in Ballymena, County Antrim in Northern Ireland, he had
a variety of jobs in his day, including assistant architect,
forklift operator for Guinness, and even boxing. He originally
intended to become a teacher, and attending St. Mary's
Teaching College in Belfast, but - like so many of his
fellow actors - he joined the Belfast Lyric Player's Theatre
in 1976 and was completely enamoured by performing. He
worked primarily in theatre, performing in classical works,
until he was discovered by director John Boorman, who
cast him in his 1981 film "Excalibur." He followed
this up with roles in small films and Television movies
until 1987, when he appeared as the mute Carl Wayne Anderson
in "Suspect."
In 1990 he made his first appeared in his
first lead role as the title character in "Darkman,"
which was followed up by roles in " Leap of Faith"
co-starring Steve Martin and Lolita Davidovich, and
"Husband and Wives." This led to what was
arguably the biggest role of his career when he was
cast as Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's
List," earning him nominations both for an Oscar
and a Golden Globe. After this he appeared for a time
on Broadway before returning to the screen, portraying
such iconic characters as Rob Roy and Michael Collins.
Liam is nominated for his role as the controversial
Alfred Kinesy in "Kinsey"
alongside fellow nominee Laura
Linney.
