If David Carradine is an icon, then Morgan Freeman is a god. In a career that has spanned 40 years, he has appeared in an incredible amount of timeless roles, from Hoke Colburn in "Driving Miss Daisy" with Jessica Tandy to God Himself in "Bruce Almighty" with Jim Carrey. He first appeared onstage in the all-African-American Broadway production of "Holly, Dolly!" and has continued to be successful on stage, screen and television.

He was in the Air Force for five years before deciding to study acting, and soon found himself working in both televsion and radio. At about the same time he made his film debut in the children's comedy "Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow?" Though his roles where few a far between during the 70s, his performance in the prison drama "Brubaker" in 1980 was critically acclaimed, as was his work on television on "Days of Our Lives," which he appeared on from 1982 to 1984.

In 1987 he earned his first Oscar nomination for "Street Smart," and his career took off, appearing in a string of incredible roles, beginning with "Clean and Sober" alongside Michael Keaton, and received his second Oscar nomination for "Driving Miss Daisy."

He has continued to work unceasingly, appearing in other movie gems like "Unforgiven" with Clint Eastwood, the Oscar-nominated performance in "The Shawshank Redemption," "Se7en" with Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey, "Amistad" directed by Steven Spielberg, and has been averaging at least two films per year. He is nominated for "Million Dollar Baby," alongside fellow nominees Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank.
