Patricia Clarkson grew up in New Orleans and went to Louisiana State University for speech, but she could not ignore her love of acting and decided soon after her studies started to take drama as a career. She would eventually finish her studies taking drama at Yale.

After school Patricia Clarkson worked as an actress on Broadway with some television guest spots on the side. Her film debut came in the movie the The Untouchables and after that she did not have a hard time finding work. She was in movies like The Dead Pool, Jumanji and the Green Mile.

This year Clarkson is nominated for best supporting actress for her work as a dying mother in Pieces of April.
