paul giamatti

Paul comes from an impressive line of very talented people.
His father, A. Bartlett Giamatti, was a professor of Renaissance
Literature at Yale University and was eventually named
the university's youngest president - and eventually the
commissioner of the National League of Baseball. His mother
was an accomplished actress, as is his brother, and his
sister a jewelry designer. Paul himself majored in English
at Yale and graduated with a Masters in Fine Art, with
a major in drama from the Yale University School of Drama.
Paul got his start in acting in the theatre,
as well as a few small film parts and guest spots on
TV. After appearing in lead roles on Broadway, his big
break in the movies came in Howard Stern's "Private
Parts." After this he appeared in small but comic
parts in films like "Safe Men" and the remake
of "Planet of the Apes." Holding his own in
both small independent films and studio blockbusters,
he appeared alongside Jim
Carrey as Bob Zmuda in "Man on the Moon,"
and then got his first major starring role in "American
Splendor," which earned him a Grand Jury Prize
at the Sundance Film Festival. "Sideways"
also features fellow Golden Globe hopefuls Virginia
Madsen and Thomas
Haden Church.
This year Giamatti is nominated for work
in Cinderella Man with fellow nominee
Russell Crowe.
