Peter Weir went to school for art and law at Sydney University, after he was done school
Weir started to get jobs editing and doing camera work.
After doing this work for awhile Weir decided that he wanted to make his own film. He made a low-budget
horror film called The Cars That Ate Paris, the film was fairly successful in Australia and allowed him to make
more films in his home country
The movie Witness was Weir’s first America film. The movie starring Harrison Ford
was a huge hit and won all kinds of awards. Since then Weir has worked on The Mosquito Coast, Dead Poets Society and
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
This year Weir is nominated for best director for his work on Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,
starring Russell Crowe.
