Russell Crowe was born in New Zealand, but spent most of his childhood growing up
in Australia. Crowe’s parents were movie caterers and Russell was exposed the movie
business at an early age.
A young Russell Crowe made a name for himself on Australian television.
In the early 90’s Crowe was in Romper Stomper and the Sum of Us, both of these films
were successful in Australia and started to make a name for Crowe in the American
industry, including impressing an actress by the name of Sharon Stone.
Stone was about to start working on a
movie called the Quick and the Dead and she
wanted Crowe to be in her film. This role would eventually
give Russell Crowe a chance to star in his first big
role in L.A. Confidential. As they say, the
rest is history. Since then Crowe has been in the
Insider, the Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Master and
Commander: The Far
Side of the World. All of these roles have
brought Crowe critical and box office success. The Far
Side of the World was directed by fellow Golden Globe
nominee Peter Weir.
Crowe is nominated for Best Actor In A
Leading Role – Drama with his role in Cinderella
Man with Renée
Zellweger.
