Sean Penn was born to an actress mother Eileen Ryan
and a director father, Leo Penn. Sean Penn was interested in acting
from an early age and began to take on parts like his role in Taps and the
stoner surfer Jeff Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
It was during the 80’s that Penn began to get more serious roles.
It was also during the 80’s that Sean Penn married pop icon of the time Madonna,
they even starred in a movie together called Shanghai Surprise. But it was not until
the 90’s that Sean Penn really got the roles that defined his career.
The decade started with a role in the gangster movie Carlito's Way,
which was a huge success. Two years later Penn starred in Dead Man Walking a movie
about a man on death rows last days. The actor got his first Oscar nomination for
the part. Other notable movies during that time were The Thin Red Line and Sweet
and Lowdown.
Over the last few years Penn was starred in movies that have received all kinds
of critical acclaim, including Mystic River, which he won the Golden Globe and Oscar
for best male performance.
