Paul Giamatti plays Miles Raymond, a failed writer and junior high English teacher. In an attempt to figure out the problems their relationships have suffered, why they failed where they did, and figure out just what's wrong with them, Miles and Jack (played by Thomas Haden Church) drive through California's wine country. While Jack has to decide whether or not to cancel his wedding after cheating on his fiancée, Miles wonders if he's made the right choice starting up another relationship with a waitress (played by Virginia Madsen). What results is a hilarious and thought-provoking film.
